Notes from the Director

Often the most interesting images from backstage in a production are of the director as they direct.  Watch our director Annie Eddington, as she gives her notes to the cast... (NB: We love you Annie...)

The sideways note, whispering words into the ear of our Ariel.
The direct note - face to face with Caliban.
The backwards lean - for extra emphasis...
The frontal assault - for extra, extra emphasis...
The wavy arms - drawing the actors into the note.

Rope Work

These are images from a rehearsal for Act 4, Scene 1 - where Caliban and his confederates are enmeshed with clothing - much rope work went on as we tried to figure out how to hang it...

Much discussion was had about how to get under the rope. This option was dismissed.
Caliban despairs at the stupidity of the others...
Stephano is drunk, so moved a lot. Hence the blurs...

Retrenchment

We've reached the halfway mark in the rehearsal process.  Scenes are no longer being created, but being reworked and built on.  That said, there's still a lot off new details to add - for example our alternative to the original masque - which Sara is taking the cast through below...

From the All Dayer and Beyond

An all day workshop and rehearsal for the first scene happened, led by the fabulous Gemma, for which there is much video footage to follow shortly!

And a rehearsal with the silks - silk is a key feature of the production, as Sudbury is a famous centre for silk weaving.  You'll be seeing a lot more silk anon.

More photos and videos will be coming soon!

A Reckoning in a Little Room

The Island is created...
The second rehearsal for The Tempest was a very small one - or in a very small room - looking at the small scene between Miranda and Ferdinand.
Ferdinand and Miranda in readiness...

A serious discussion is had...
Prospero tries on a possible magic cloak...
Prospero and Miranda looking for the next line...
And then we had our first auditorium rehearsal to look at the massive Act 1.2

The Tempest will be performing at the Quay Theatre, Great Maplestead and in Spain in July.
Tickets for performances at the Quay are available to buy at www.quaysudbury.com
